Daniel in the Lion's Den Story Summary
I'm sure you've heard all about Daniel and his night in the lion's den. It truly is quite the story.
But how exactly did Daniel end up in this predicament anyway?
Daniel was originally one of the many Jews who were taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar was specifically looking for some of the best of the best people, so to speak. And Daniel fit that criteria.
He was given a new identity and trained to serve in the royal palace. He served several kings, but always held true to his faith, his beliefs and his God.
Because of his wisdom, he was appointed to a high position within the royal palace which made others jealous. They did everything they could to find a way to see fault in Daniel, but they could find no fault. So what they did was encourage King Darius to enforce a decree that prohibited anyone from serving any God or individual other than him.
The punishment for breaking this law was being thrown into a den of lions.
Officials saw Daniel praying and went straight to the king expecting the king to uphold his decree.
The king was upset, but he knew he couldn't break his own law. He was hopeful that Daniel's God would save him.
So Daniel was thrown into a den full of lions. But guess what? When the king checked the next morning, Daniel was totally fine, not harmed at all… just relaxing with the lions! God had sent an angel to shut the lions’ mouths. King Darius was so amazed that he made a new law that everyone was to respect Daniel's God.
