Printable Tower of Babel Word Search for Kids Bible Study
If your kids are anything like mine, they don’t just want to hear a story being read to them. They want to interact with the story… which is why I created a Tower of Babel word search printable. It’s a nice little addition to your Bible study time.
Imagine your entire family speaking one language with the ability to communicate with one another, then suddenly every member of your family speaks a different language.
What was once understood by all of you has now turned into jibber jabber, just utter confusion.
That’s basically what happened in the story we’re talking about today. We’re going to be exploring the Tower of Babel and connecting it to how it can be applied in our kids’ lives today.

Tower of Babel Bible Story Summary
After the flood, Noah’s descendants started to spread out and repopulate the earth. They all spoke the same language which made communication super easy. But as they migrated, they found an area in Shinar and decided to settle there.
They set out to build a city and a tower that reached up to the heavens. Their goal was to make a name for themselves so they wouldn’t have to scatter apart from each other. They started working together to build the tower using bricks and mortar. They didn’t need God for this.
God saw what they were doing and wasn’t too pleased. He knew that with one language, there would be no limit to what they could achieve and they might end up straying from His plan.
So to mix things up, God confused their language. Suddenly, they couldn’t understand each other anymore which brought the construction of the tower to a halt. They abandoned the project and the people scattered across the earth speaking different languages.
It’s called Babel because that’s where God confused everybody’s language.
How to Use this Printable Tower of Babel Word Search
I love word search puzzles because they’re an easy, low-prep, simple, quiet time activity that most kids can do without any problems. I know I used lots of adjectives haha.
No, but seriously, there’s not much you need to do other than download it, print it then hand it out.
Most kids have done a word search already so they more than likely don’t need any explanations in how to complete it.
The main difference in the word search I created and the ones kids normally do is I included the words to find within the story rather than a separate word bank, so you could explain that piece of it to them. The words to find are bolded.
You can use the actual word search story to teach them about the Tower of Babel, or you can simply use it as a reinforcement supplement after you’ve already taught them.
Feel free to read the Bible story to them in Genesis 11:1-9.
The Design of the Printable
The bulk of the page is filled with the actual story rather than the word search itself; however, the puzzle is still big enough for most kids to find the words without issue.
I placed a picture of a tower in the background that represents the tower of Babel. Don’t worry though, I lightened the picture so the letters are easily noticed.
The Story
After Noah's flood and the world repopulated again, everyone on earth spoke the same language. As people moved eastward, they settled in a land called Shinar. They wanted to build a city with a tower that reached to the heavens. They thought this would make them famous and keep them from being scattered across the world.
They used bricks for stone and tar for mortar. As the tower grew taller, they felt proud of their work, but forgot to give credit to God. They wanted to show that they could be great without Him.
God saw the tower and the pride in their hearts. He knew that if they continued, nothing would be impossible for them, but not in a good way. Their pride and desire to do things without God could lead to more trouble.
So, God decided to mix up their language. Suddenly, they couldn’t understand each other's words. When one person said, “Pass the bricks,” another might think he said, “Pass the sticks.” It was very confusing!
Because they were unable to communicate, the people stopped building the tower. They scattered across the earth in groups, each speaking a different language. The city was called Babel because there God confused the language of the whole world.

Reflection Questions
When you’re in the process of wrapping up your lesson on the Tower of Babel, here are some reflection questions that you can discuss with your kids to help them relate the lessons of the Tower of Babel story to their everyday lives.
1. Why is it important to work together and listen to each other?
This question encourages kids to think about the value of teamwork and good communication in their daily interactions.
You can reiterate to them that even though the people in the story used teamwork in a way that dishonored God, because they were able to work together as a team, they had success in building the tower before God intervened.
2. Have you ever tried to do something on your own without asking for help? What happened?
This helps kids reflect on the importance of being okay with asking for help and working with others, rather than trying to do everything on their own. I personally think this is a valuable skill to teach kids, one I’m trying to constantly reiterate with my oldest daughter who may just be too independent.
3. How can we show respect for others who speak different languages or come from different cultures?
This question can lead to a discussion about diversity, respect, and understanding the differences in the people in the communities around them.
