Cain and Abel Story for Kids Word Search

The story of Cain and Abel is found in Genesis 4. Cain and Abel were the first two sons of Adam and Eve.

Their story is one of the earliest examples of sibling rivalry. It really came about because God accepted Abel's offerings, but rejected Cain's. I guess you can imagine this led to feelings of anger and resentment that ultimately resulted in Cain committing one of the worst sins… against his very own brother at that.

This word search can be used as an educational tool to engage children with the story. As they look for the words, it opens the door for you to discuss what these words mean and how they relate to their lives today.

Each word they find will help reinforce the key elements of the story.

This word search can encourage children to think about the emotions and actions of both Cain and Abel.

Cain and Abel Bible Story

Here’s the story that’s listed on the word search printable:

After Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, they started a new life outside. They worked hard and eventually had two sons named Cain and Abel. Cain was the older brother and became a farmer who grew vegetables and grains. Abel was the younger brother who took care of sheep and became a shepherd.

As the boys grew up, they learned from their parents to give thanks to God for their blessings. One day, both brothers brought offerings to God to show their gratitude. Cain brought some of the crops he had grown while Abel brought the best parts of his sheep.

God was very pleased with Abel’s offering because Abel gave the very best he had. However, God did not accept Cain’s offering which made Cain very sad and very angry. God noticed Cain’s sadness and anger and warned him to be careful about his feelings as they could lead him to make bad choices.

Unfortunately, Cain didn’t listen to God’s advice. His anger grew and he invited Abel to walk with him in the fields. While they were alone, Cain let his anger get the best of him and hurt Abel. When God asked Cain where Abel was, Cain tried to hide what he had done by saying, “I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?”

God knew what had happened and told Cain that because of his actions, farming would be harder for him and he would have to leave his family and wander the earth. This was a tough lesson about the importance of controlling anger and being kind to others, especially our family.

Cain learned too late that it’s important to make good choices and care for our brothers and sisters just like we care for ourselves.
