Bible Story Summary
Here’s a quick recap on who Abraham is in the Bible.
Abraham is a pivotal figure in the Bible. His journey really began when he left his homeland after following God's command.
He, his wife and his nephew Lot ventured to Canaan. God made a huge promise to Abraham: his descendants would become a great nation. This confused Abraham and his wife a bit as they were older and didn’t have any children.
However, despite their old age, Sarah eventually had a son named Isaac.
Abraham’s story and trials goes far beyond this short feature of his life though, so if you really want to go deeper with your kids, be sure to read Genesis 12 through Genesis 25.
The Design of the Printable
The printable Abraham word search is a little different than your typical word search.
It includes a short story educating kids about Abraham. Within the story are bolded words and these are the words that kids will be searching for when completing the word search. There is no word bank at the bottom of the page like most word searches.
The Story
I included a kid-friendly story:
There was a man named Abraham. He was once called Abram, but God changed his name. God had a special plan for Abraham. One day, God told him to leave his home in Ur and move to a new place that He would show him. This might sound a bit scary, but Abraham trusted God and agreed to go.
Abraham wasn’t young. He was 75 years old when he set out on this adventure with his wife, Sarah, and his nephew, Lot. They traveled for a long time and finally came to a place called Canaan. God promised this land to Abraham and his future family. But there was a twist, Abraham and Sarah didn’t have any children, and they were getting pretty old!
God didn’t forget Abraham, though. He made another promise: God promised Abraham as many descendants as the stars in the sky.
Time passed, and when Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90, something incredible happened. They had a son and named him Isaac, which means “laughter” because Sarah laughed when she first heard she’d become a mom at her age. God kept His promise, just as He said He would!
Abraham’s life was full of trusting God even when things seemed impossible. He teaches us that when God makes a promise, He definitely keeps it.

Reflection Questions
To deepen their understanding of Abraham's story, encourage kids to think about these reflection questions after completing the word search:
What does it mean to trust God?
Background: In the story, Abraham had to trust God’s promise even though he didn’t see immediate results.
Application: Ask the children about a time they had to trust someone, like a parent or teacher, even when it was hard or they didn’t understand why. Discuss how trusting God might feel similar and why it’s important to trust God in our daily lives.
How can waiting for something be a good thing?
Background: Abraham waited many years for God’s promises to come true.
Application: Ask the children to think about something they have waited for or are currently waiting for. Discuss how waiting can teach us patience and give us time to prepare for what’s coming. Reflect on how waiting for something important can make us appreciate it more when it finally happens.
Why do you think God makes promises to us?
Background: The promise to Abraham wasn’t just about land or a child, it was about blessing many people through him.
Application: Ask the children why they think God makes promises to us. Discuss how God’s promises show His love for us. Reflect on what promises they believe God has made to them and their families.
More Abraham Activities
Why stop with just a word search? Keep the learning going with these additional activities:
- Storytelling Time: Encourage kids to retell a part of Abraham's story in their own words.
- Promise Bracelet: You can use simple pipe cleaners and colored beads. Kids can choose a different bead color to represent the different promises God made.
- Star Craft: Provide children with a dark blue piece of paper and star stickers. Allow them to decorate their paper with as many stars as they can simulating the night sky.
